I saw her wrestling, as it seemed, with an oafish looking young man in the dance, and so I went up and issued the required “Excuse me” words. I also feared that the romantic interests in the novel would see Gemmell starting to emulate that other David, Eddings, in the cozy, cloying way he pairs off members of his party of adventurers, but our David here has a more complex understanding of human nature even if his emotional scenes are not the most sophisticated. Delving into the depths of human nature and the resilience of the human spirit, this haunting novel transports readers to a world where ancient stones hold both secrets and salvation, and a wise woman's knowledge is the key to survival in the face of unimaginable darkness.

The writing is to the point, but very effective, and Gemmell’s action sequences are the stuff of Legend (ho ho). Guarded Secret’ opens with what sounds a little like the outro from Eric Clapton’s Layla adapted by Porcupine Tree and ‘Secret Garden’ even has a vibe of the 90s Britpoppers Divine Comedy until we hit a groovy breakdown. None of these things would normally be too big of a deal because it's nearly impossible to match the greatness of those same elements in Legend. The kind of character who fights and inspires until death, but till then, he keeps fighting and keeps inspiring.

So let me preface the following review by saying that I haven't read anything beyond this book, so I assume that Gemmell gets better and better. I read his story through rose-colored glasses ten years ago and now I was seeing the reality and boy, was it a revelation in disbelief! The story appears to move in concentric circle from afar and purposefully spirals faster and closer to the climactic battle at the end, where magic and magical beings, foes and friends, must once again clash for victory, but this time not of territory but of souls. David Gemmell is one of those beloved authors whose name has been written in stone as a fantasy author that has to be on a serious fantasy fans shelf. A mentoring project for young people identified as being in need of support to make positive changes and to help reduce risk to them and the community.Decado, who, leading the Thirty warrior monks, cannot fully gain their love and loyalty, even if he has their obedience? And we never met again, the main reason being that she was forced to leave the college suddenly because of the serious illness of her mother to whom she became carer. The tones are an interesting mix – the bass has a nice character to it the guitars are very “1970’s Who” and the drums are mixed very alive – this all works to bring the piano into the fold and show off the musicianship and all works well with the often-falsetto vocals and very stylised backing vocals but it does contrast to other modern bands in the prog-rock style who might make heavier use of distortion, guitar effects and a tight, unified, bass-heavy mix.

If the legendary Druss was an atomic bomb who decimated all at ground zero in Legend, then the protagonists in TKBtGate are shockwaves rippling from the core. we will do this by supporting them to engage with other specialist services and introducing them to positive activates within their community. My colleagues, and then my boss, advised me that I needed to take some time off, and so I had decided to spend a few days in the country for a break. He has contributed to numerous genre magazines, including TV Zone and Shivers, and is a former Contributing Editor of DreamWatch specialising in coverage of US television. The Mighty Bard are a British prog-rock band and new album ‘Beyond the Gate’ promises “a collection of songs that encapsulate the mystery and wonder of the mystical world”… expect to get lost in the myst, then.
