Description

The adjustable telescopic works well, it is lightweight to use, the blades perform satisfactorily and the head can be rotated at various different angles be it 45 degrees cutting, vertical or horizontal trimming. On the plus side, there is no battery that might run out, no fumes being emitted, and no need to stop a job until it is complete. This can offer peace of mind to some gardeners. The bright orange garden tool brand Yard Force might not be the most well-known name out there, but they certainly know how to make one of the best lightweight pole hedge trimmers on the market. Boasting a 20-volt battery system, and clever space-saving features, the Yard Force 20V Cordless Hedge Trimmer is a brilliant, lightweight pole trimmer that’s ideal for smaller garden jobs. Of course, the power that this machine provides means that you compromise when it comes to noise. This is definitely not a quiet machine that your neighbours won’t hear – I’d say that it was the loudest of the hedge trimmers that I tested. I would say that is a good tool with which to maintain a garden that has been well looked after, rather than one which (like ours) has been left to grow a bit wild.

If the batteries are interchangeable, you can buy a trimmer of the same make, and extend the running time of your trimmer by transferring the batteries between compatible products. Charging the Battery Some tools come with ‘fast charge’ chargers, which will usually get the battery charged in around one hour. These are worth looking out for, or buying separately, if it’s important to you. Trimming Angles With no load-speed and a laser-cut blade offering 1400 rotations per minute, the speedy machine cuts through greenery like its nobody’s business. Its sturdy frame and soft-grip handle also enhances the cutting experience to one of comfort and accessibility for a wide range of people. Another factor that can limit you, as well as the weight of your hedge trimmer, is the battery life. While cordless hedge trimmers offer a lot of benefits, it’s important that the battery life is adequate for your needs. VonHaus has included some key safety features in the design of this hedge trimmer too, which, again, makes it suitable for both novices and professionals.

The overall design of this VonHaus hedge trimmer is pretty simple – and that’s not a bad thing. Assembling the machine only takes a couple of minutes . The shoulder strap is already attached to the pole and there are only two sections to slot together – if you’ve used a hedge trimmer before, then you probably won’t even need the instructions. For peace of mind, a two-switch safety mechanism is included alongside an aluminium press bar to steadily guide the machine through the trimming process. A blade sheath is also included for safe storage. Anyway, just before the end of last year, VIP’s trusty old hedge loppers gave up the ghost. Once too often they had been called into service to trim the rampant Leylandii hedge at the front of the house – and having endured hour upon hour of service, they decided they’d had enough.

You will no doubt want to invest in the best pole hedge trimmer available within your budget. The five tools we have listed here are designed to save you time and effort, and they have a range of features. Long reach hedge trimmers can be powered by battery, petrol of electric (we will explore the pros and cons of the three types later). The trimmer is fitted with a single action blade (one blade stays still while the other moves) or a dual action one (two moving in opposing directions). Ultimately, it comes down to what’s most important to you. It might be that I’ve been spoiled by testing out all the best cordless telescopic pole trimmers on the market, because I was a bit nonplussed by this corded trimmer. For me, if it had been more powerful, I think I could justify being tethered to the national grid. You are also limited to just 30 minutes on the battery trimming time – more powerful batteries can offer you a lot longer than just 30 mins (but are more expensive)

I have to say it didn’t feel entirely stable when the angle was set, and the blades felt like they moved around a bit but it didn’t feel like this was dangerous in any way and it was certainly precise enough for us. The Einhell Power X-Change 18V Cordless Hedge Trimmer is a quality tool with a good battery included. This German brand has been showcasing high-quality garden tools, and every Einhell tool I’ve used before has been very impressive. Needless to say, I had high expectations!

The protector at the tip of the blade allows you to cut safely, while the soft grip on the rear handle and multi-position front handle ensures it can be used for long periods of time with little discomfort. Unlike many other hedge trimmers, this model comes with the blade cover included and also the should strap to support angle trimming and this battery is interchangeable with other tools from VonHaus which have the lithium-ion G battery range. VonHaus has also included some handy safety features, which make it suitable for both novices and professionals. These include a plastic blade cover, a dead-man’s switch and a reliable shoulder strap. This helps you to keep the tool well balanced and maintain control when the machine is fully extended. The hedge sweeper attachment is a very clever idea, but I found that it made the hedge trimmer feel even more unbalanced due to the extra weight that it placed on the cutting head. While it does come with a shoulder strap, the fact that this tool weighs in at 5.6kg means that it still feels heavy on the arms.It isn’t particularly heavy, and there’s a shoulder strap so even someone small can operate it confidently. Disclaimer: I was sent this VonHaus cordless pole hedge trimmer to review free of charge, but words and pictures are mine. See more information here. A hedge trimmer can be powered by either petrol or batteries (in the case of a cordless hedge trimmer). There are pros and cons to each, and then there are mains-powered trimmers as well, which have their own benefits and disadvantages. Petrol long reach hedge trimmers are cordless. This gives the freedom to move around your garden and work wherever you want to. The best telescopic pole hedge trimmers have a head that can be set at multiple angles. This should make trimming the tops and undersides of hedges easier. Depending on the look you’re after, you can adjust the blade angle depending on the shape you want.
