About this deal

So those looking into DX or the lighter FX bodies will, I think, naturally gravitate to this lens just because of its more diminutive physical attributes.

Your comparing the bokeh-thing to composition is not totally exact as composition is the fact to "cut in the reality" which is unavoidable as one cannot take a picture of the whole world, while bokeing is a volontary way to over-extract a subject from its context. Actually, being an Ape With A Camera, the OP presumably does not have much linguistic skill and was actually saying that the lens looked as good as a banana, in other words very good indeed. As for autofocus accuracy, I could not tell any difference in AF accuracy between the 70-200mm f/4G and the 70-200mm f/2. You might want to use this position if you have nothing this close, and for some reason the lens keeps racking in and out looking for closer subjects.

This way you’ll get total control over focus, with your AF activated separately from the shutter and instant manual focus override at your fingertips when you need it. The 80-200mm f/4 AI-s works on all cameras, while this G lens won't work on better Nikons like the F2AS. Luckily for us landscape photographers, using filters is extremely easy with both lenses in this Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2. The telephoto lens’s VR system has two modes of operation: a classic mode and an “Active” mode that stabilizes high-frequency shake for images taken in motion. It's more like 193mm, which is typical cheating for a zoom (zooms often cheat by a few percent at each end). If you really want great background blur, skip zooms and go straight to the 135mm f/2 DC or 200mm f/2 or 300mm f/2.

Microcontrast is excellent by Nikon standards – right up there with the best of them – but still falls slightly short of the mighty Zeiss Otus**. The Nikon 70-200mm f/4G VR is compatible with all three of the current Nikon teleconverters: TC-14E II, TC-17E II and TC-20E III. Zooming is the best from Nikon this side of the original 70-210/4 AF: the zoom ring flicks with a fingertip. lens wide open, or when I look at the difference in the texture of the bushes behind a subject, the lens zoomed to 35mm or so, when using a 24-105 lens at f4 vs.at the long focal lengths on my samples when used at f/4, especially in the extreme corners (note: I’ve seen tests from others that don’t show this; could be sample variation). Like its big brother, the 70-200mm f/4 is equipped with the latest generation of optical image stabilization for which Nikon announces a huge gain of 5 stops. suffers of “focus breathing”, meaning that its actual focal lens changes with the distance you focus the lens at. i totally agree with you in principal but this piece of dumb accessory doesn't need to be this expensive.
