About this deal

Now comes the fun part! Grab all those strips of fabric and ribbon you cut in the beginning. Gather up 6-8 pieces and tie in between each heart.

We’re going to add some February fun to our homes by learning how to make a Valentine garland with velvet covered hearts and painted wood beads. This velvet covered heart Valentine garland is the perfect bit of cozy to add to your winter home. HOW TO MAKE A VALENTINE GARLAND with VELVET COVERED HEARTS Shoot” some glue on the middle of the heart and bring the top corner of the fabric down on the glue. Whether you are looking for help from your older kids or plan on having little hands create your construction paper crafts, there are so many simple projects for any skill level. This garland not only uses lovely stretch velvet for covering the hearts, but there is also a farmhouse twist to it using wood beads! This month’s inspiration photo comes from Jenny at Refresh Living. Let’s take a look at what inspired my velvet-covered heart garland: Remember, if you think some of the pieces are too long they can always be shortened. Step 2 – Making the Hearts Have each family member write on their hearts all the things that they love!I loved seeing the things my family came up with. Some of my favorites were some of the most random – Xbox, avocados, legos…my kids had a blast with this! For the kids who are too young to spell, have them draw their pictures. (The pictures my 4-year-old drew of mom and dad are priceless!) I used twine for the base of my garland. Make sure to measure where you are going to use it and add about 8-12″ to each end. That way you’ll have a tassel that hangs of each side.

Kids of all ages as well as adults can have fun creating these heart crafts and paper crafts for Valentines day DIY decorating. I wanted something else besides my handmade hearts and ribbon to adhere to the twine. On the recommendation of my good friend, I went to the dollar store and grabbed some small grapevine hearts. They were the perfect addition. Add them to a basket or tray, hang them as part of a wall gallery, add them to a bookshelf, etc. There are so many fun possibilities. Today, let’s take a look at how to make a Valentine garland with velvet-covered hearts… and we’ll add some painted wood beads, just for good measure! Once you are happy with your heart placement, secure at the top of each loop with a small dab of hot glue to the long piece of yarn.

Be sure to leave about 1 foot of string on each end so that you have plenty of space to tie the garland to whatever you’re tying it to. For more information, see my complete disclosure HERE. What You’ll Need for your Velvet Valentine Wood Bead Garland I made the decision to glue them right onto my hand made hearts. Next, I glued the plain grapevine hearts, directly to the twine, in an every other fashion.

To hang the velvet hearts from the wood bead garland, add some ribbon to the top of the hearts. (Man, I guess this *isn’t* completely no-sew!) Okay, now that you’ve learned how to make a Valentine garland with velvet covered hearts, are velvet hearts in your future? What colors are you thinking of using? How/where would you use them? There are SO many possibilities! If you are making your way over to my cottage from my friend, Cindy from County Road 407, a big Michigan welcome to you! Didn’t she share a pretty updated vintage look for her centerpiece?! Such a delightful idea! There are so many ideas to decorate your home for Valentine's day but here are a few favorites that will make those special feel loved: Using the glue where necessary, stretch and fold the velvet around the heart. Where needed, add glue and ‘anchor’ the velvet. Remember this doesn’t need to be perfect. Due to the fact that I make blankets, I always have a ton of fabric in my house. If you don’t have fabric on hand, might I suggest, asking your family and friends if they have fabric or ribbon scraps on hand. You can also hit the fabric leftover bins at your local craft store. Also, the dollar store is a great resource for holiday ribbon. I’m joining some talented blogging friends, hosted by my friend Pasha from Pasha is Home, and we are bringing you some of our favorite Valentine’s Day ideas! Who doesn’t love a little fun for Valentine’s Day?! By the way, I didn’t measure the spacing percisely, however, you can if you want to. With the length I had it was easy to eyeball them. Step 5 – Add the Ribbon & Display

My sweet friend Carol made this pom-pom Valentine garland and I knew you would want to see it. Isn't this adorable! You can change the colors of the yarn and felt to pinks, gold, or white to make this garland any color scheme. It would even be cute in rainbow colors. Inspired Crochet Designs wrote to me and said that if you make the following changes on Round 3 it will keep the top of the heart from curling. Used (2sc in next st) twice around the bumps of the heart in the last row. and it totally got rid of the curling edges. If you have trouble with curling this it is worth a try. It was easier for me to sc all the way around (chain one at the point of the heart). How to make an easy crochet heart garland I love these yarn-covered hearts, so much that last year I made pale pink nes to hang in my living room! If you are like me and like to crochet on the go this toteis a stylish way to keep everything you need at your fingertips! Make a DIY pom-pom heart Valentine's day garland for your holiday decor. Doily Heart Valentine Garland

Now, tie your velvet-covered hearts onto your wood bead garland and hang it on your mantle, bookshelf, windowpane, open shelf, or… your window bench! Go figure! After you have wrapped both sides of the pom-pom maker, this is where the sharp and pointed scissors come in. While your glue gun is heating, cut your velvet into 6.5″ x 7″ rectangles. For my garland, I did five hearts.
